Aquatic Center Bond Election Announced

Arguments in Favor and Against Bond

 
In 2011, with the goal of replacing and enhancing the Springville Community Pool, Springville City held a bond election for a new recreation center. Voters decided against the 2011 bond.

Since the 2011 bond election, two of the most often heard concerns expressed by Springville City residents to City officials have been:

1. The need for Springville to construct a new pool
2. Provide more activities for Springville’s youth

In response, several Springville residents participated on an Aquatic Center Exploratory Committee to make recommendations to the City Council concerning the need and options for a future aquatics center. The Aquatic Center Exploratory Committee recommended to the City Council that the City should hold a bond election in November 2015 for an aquatics and activities center. The recommended aquatics and activities center is smaller than the proposed 2011 recreation center and will cost residents less to build and operate.

The special bond election will be held on November 3, 2015. If the bond is approved, construction will start in 2016.

• Indoor Leisure Pool (6, 400 sq. ft.)
• Outdoor Water Play Area/Splash Pad
• Indoor Activities Center (24, 000 sq. ft.—basketball, weight lifting, exercise rooms, indoor track, etc.)

Location

After reviewing 12 possible sites throughout Springville, the Committee has recommended constructing the proposed facility on City property at 700 South 1250 West, three blocks off the 400 South corridor.
