Spring Canyon Fire

The US Forest Service just posted this final update on our recent fire.

“This will be the last fire update from the US Forest Service and Springville City – The Spring Canyon Fire is located on the North Side of Hobble Creek and at the mouth of the Spring Canyon, on the eastern edge of Springville, Utah. The fire was human caused by fireworks on Saturday, July 26th. Currently the fire is 90% contained, has burned 140 acres, and is being actively suppressed. Of the 140 acres, 111acres are on private property, with 27 acres US Forest Service, and 2 acres of Utah Department of Wildlife Resources.

“Resources to fight the Spring Canyon Fire are being reduced as the fire is being brought under control. Fire crews will continue with mop-up operations, focusing on interior hot spots well within containment lines. The fire will creep and smolder as pockets of oak brush burn out. The public can expect to see smoke high on the mountain over the next few days.

“The following resources remain on the fire:

  • 1 Hand crew
  • 1 Type 3 Helicopter
  • 3 Engines

“The Ether Fire, which started be lightening on July 23, 2014 located near Ether Peak and on the south side of Hobble Creek canyon, has burned within dangerously steep terrain making it unsafe for firefighters to work. The fire is being monitored from the air and no smoke has been seen since Friday July, 25th. This fire will continue to be monitored by air over the next few days.”

Springville City would like to thank the many citizens who volunteered and helped our community and neighbors during this event. We are also thankful for the efforts of our Springville Fire and Rescue Department, Police Department, Public Works Department. An event this large requires help from our neighboring cities. We received help from Mapleton Police and Fire Departments, Utah County Fire and Sheriff Departments, and Spanish Fork and Salem Fire Departments.
